Posted by Jenny on 29 Aug 2008 || 62 Comments
The second post is from Stephenie herself, and it discusses the leaked Midnight Sun chapters.
So where does this leave Midnight Sun? My first feeling was that there was no way to continue. Writing isn't like math; in math, two plus two always equals four no matter what your mood is like. With writing, the way you feel changes everything. If I tried to write Midnight Sun now, in my current frame of mind, James would probably win and all the Cullens would die, which wouldn't dovetail too well with the original story. In any case, I feel too sad about what has happened to continue working on Midnight Sun, and so it is on hold indefinitely.

Why?
“I think Bella is a bit underdeveloped as a character,” said Amy Snow, of the wizard rock band Romilda Vane and the Chocolate Cauldrons. “Hermione was first and foremost a person, and she’s realistic. It’s a pity Bella doesn’t have a secret inner strength. She’s more of just a pure maiden.”

Shock: It seems everyone who sits down to read the novel plows through it in a matter of days, if not hours - did you have a similar experience? And what was your initial reaction?
Rosenberg: I read it over the course of eight hours - one long day - because we were moving so quickly on the film and I got caught up in it. I loved the mythology she created. Vampires are probably an overdone genre in storytelling. We've all seen a gazillion different vampire movies. And to bring something new to it is very difficult to do.

MTV: Why, after all these decades of storytelling, do we still care about vampires?
Rathbone: Well, I think everybody wants to be a vampire. I used to want to be a vampire [when I was young]. It'd be great, you know? Run around at night, never die, kill people. It sounds like a great life!
There is also a Movies Blog, where Jackson talks about the hair problems the cast had to start with. Read/see it here.
“Oh my God. See, there was a problem the first time they did the hair, that first press release. I don’t know; there was some confusion over how to do it.”

The change left a hole in Hollywood's overall schedule for Nov. 21, the week before Thanksgiving, one of the busiest weekends for theatres.
But fantasy fans will not have to do without: A day after Half-Blood Prince moved out, Summit Entertainment's vampire romance Twilight, based on another best-selling series of books, moved in, switched from its scheduled Dec. 12 release to Nov. 21.

Movie date
Current mood: groggy
Just a few things about the new release Nov. 21st release date for Twilight:
1) I have no idea how this affects international release dates. I’m not exactly in the loop on those kinds of things. Hopefully that information will be available soon. I’ll see what I can find out…
2) I’m really, really sorry for any inconvenience the new schedule is causing people. I feel your pain. Let’s just say that my Thanksgiving plans are going through a major overhaul, too.
3) Looking on the bright side, this new release date means that Twilight will get to be on more screens–a lot more. That might mean a shorter drive for some people.

It feels good. I feel like I started somewhere huge, and there's sort of nowhere to go from here... I feel like it was a big responsibility and I was really intimidated for a while, but now that it's done and I've had some breathing time to step away from the project and I'm not living it anymore, I feel good. I'm really proud. I've never worked so hard on another movie and you wouldn't expect that.. It's a big studio movie, but...

Twilight Movie Release Date CHANGED: November 21!
Posted by Michelle on 15 Aug 2008 || 23 Comments
Los Angeles, CA August 15, 2008 — TWILIGHT, the first film in Summit Entertainment's thriller romance franchise, has moved up its North American release date to Friday, November 21, 2008. The film, which was previously planned to be released on December, 12, 2008, is taking advantage of an opening in the upcoming fall release calendar. The new release date for TWILIGHT allows the studio to both bring the film to the written-series' enormous fan base sooner, and to present the film in more theatres prior to the holiday movie-going season where traditionally screen time for any popular film is limited.
"When Warner Bros. decided to move HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE to the summer of 2009, we saw a unique opportunity to slot in our film which has been gaining tremendous awareness and momentum over the past several months," said Rob Friedman, Co-Chairman and CEO of Summit Entertainment. "We by no means are trying to fill the shoes of the incredible POTTER franchise for 2008, rather we are just looking to bring the fans of Stephenie Meyer's incredible book series the film as soon possible from a programming perspective."
Starring Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart in the thriller-romance based on Stephenie Meyer's publishing phenomenon, the film is directed by Catherine Hardwicke from a script by Melissa Rosenberg (STEP UP). Karen Rosenfelt (DEVIL WEARS PRADA), Greg Mooradian and Wyck Godfrey will produce along with Mark Morgan via his Maverick Films banner.
TWILIGHT tells the story of 17-year-old Bella Swan (Stewart) who moves to the small town of Forks, Washington to live with her father, and becomes drawn to Edward Cullen (Pattinson), a pale, mysterious classmate who seems determined to push her away. But neither can deny the attraction that pulls them together...even when Edward confides that he and his family are vampires. Their unorthodox romance puts her in physical danger when Edward's nemesis comes to town and sets his sights on Bella.
Thanks to Summit Entertainment for the press release.

Posted by Michelle on 15 Aug 2008 || 1 Comments
“There’s no way that ‘Harry Potter’ was worried about ‘Twilight,’ but ‘Twilight’ has got to be feeling very good right now,” Bock said, projecting that the vampire movie could do somewhere around $70-100 million. “Maybe it won’t be as big as ‘Harry Potter,’ but if a company like Summit Entertainment pulls off $100 million, that’s quite a coup. Things are looking really bright for ‘Twilight’ right now.”

It's All About Kellan Lutz!
Posted by Shelly on 11 Aug 2008 || 3 Comments
TeenHollywood: You have a great ensemble cast for Twilight. What was that experience like? And, did you do any bonding ahead of time, so that you could appear as close as the Cullen family is in the books?
Kellan: Yeah, we actually really tried for that. Lucky for me, I knew a lot of the cast members. They were my friends, so it was really easy to step in there and be Emmett. As far as with Nikki Reed and myself, I hadn't really hung out with her, so it was my mission, as well as hers, to make the relationship of Rosalie and Emmett, and be able to portray a realness on screen. We're married and we pretend to be siblings, so we had to feel each other out and know the quirkiness of it all. So, we'd hang out and go to dinner all the time, and we built puzzles and just did random stuff. The cast would all hang out off the set because we were all around the same age range and it was such a great cast to work with. Everyone was really cool. We'd all go to dinner, or go to the bar next door and listen to the bands play, and just relax. We had some hard shoot days with a lot of stunts.

"Another big reason is because it's Grand Rapids -- hometown."
Lautner said his son probably was extra tired after the session because friends and family took him out to play basketball and "work out" throughout the day.

Forums and Front Page Comments
Posted by Michelle on 01 Aug 2008 || 0 Comments
I've gotten a few emails from people who do not live in the US, asking if we could wait until the book releases in their country to open the forums/comments back up. Obviously, we can't keep the forums shut down for much longer, so here's what the plan is...
Our forums will be up tomorrow (August 2, 2008) at 4:00 pm CST, but our front page comments will not be up until August 4, when the book releases in the UK and Australia. Sadly, I can't make everybody happy, so I've done my best to compromise and figure something out. SO... you shouldn't have to worry about accidentally coming across spoilers on the main site until August 4th, but I cannot guarantee the same for the forums. Please remember to go into the forums at your own risk and know that you may come across BD spoilers in there!
Edit// I made a mistake yesterday when I said August 1, I meant August 2 (today). Also, thanks to Emma for telling me that Canada already got their book yesterday!

Stephenie Meyer: It's kind of cool. No one's ever accused [the Twilighters] of not being passionate, and it makes me feel really good that they care so much about everything. Even when they weren't sure about the movie things, they cared — and that's what matters.

Besides the fan fervor surrounding Breaking Dawn’s release is the arguably greater fervor surrounding the cinematic release of the series’ first installment, Twilight, which hits theaters this December. Of course, anyone familiar with the books shouldn’t be surprised with the overwhelming anticipation for the movie’s release, but I think even Meyer and the young cast of the film were all blown away by the level of mania they experienced during the packed-house panel for Twilight at this year’s Comic-Con.

MTV interviews Stephenie Meyer and Christian Serratos
Posted by Julia on 01 Aug 2008 || 0 Comments
Stephenie Meyer talked with MTV about the Twilight film and other things.
All year long, “Twilight” fans have been preparing themselves for the December movie, as well as the three sequels that will inevitably follow. But could the series actually go five movies deep?
“I really think they’d have to do five movies,” Stephenie Meyers revealed exclusively to MTV News Thursday morning, sitting down with us on the eve of her “Breaking Dawn” release and mini-tour. “Because you can’t do ‘Breaking Dawn’ in one movie, you’d have to split it up.”

MTV also talks with Christian Serratos (who plays Angela Weber in the Twilight movie).
Serratos told us that, like all the rest of the Twilighters out there, she’s dying to know what happens in Stephenie Meyer’s fourth and final book, “Breaking Dawn,” when it comes out Friday night.“I’ve put mine on hold at Barnes & Noble just like everybody else,” Serratos said. “I’m waiting for my copy. I can’t wait to read it!”
