Stephenie's Site: Midnight Sun News

Posted by Jenny on 29 Aug 2008 || 62 Comments

Stephenie's site has been updated twice. The first post is from Seth, which tells us about some site updates, and upcoming books to pre-order.

The second post is from Stephenie herself, and it discusses the leaked Midnight Sun chapters.

So where does this leave Midnight Sun? My first feeling was that there was no way to continue. Writing isn't like math; in math, two plus two always equals four no matter what your mood is like. With writing, the way you feel changes everything. If I tried to write Midnight Sun now, in my current frame of mind, James would probably win and all the Cullens would die, which wouldn't dovetail too well with the original story. In any case, I feel too sad about what has happened to continue working on Midnight Sun, and so it is on hold indefinitely.

Read Stephenie's whole message here.

The Daily Iowan has a new blog article which talks about The Twilight Saga, as well as the Twilight movie and its earlier release date.

For the readers who seemed skeptical on the matter - I have read three of the four Twilight tomes. I'm not a fan of Meyer's overwrought writing, though the vampire yarn was a good one until, pardon the ridiculous metaphor, getting too tangled.

Posted by Jenny on 26 Aug 2008 || 0 Comments

Entertainment Weekly's Popwatch blog has a review article focusing on the first chapter of Midnight Sun (the same chapter available on Stephenie's site).

Edward's voice in the novel is not only more nuanced and mature than high-strung Bella's (perhaps his 107 years has something to do with that), but we get the added bonus of avoiding all the smoldering eyes/icy-cold granite-body talk.

Spoiler warning: Comments on the article may include information about the chapters of MS that were supposedly leaked. There has been no official statement about this, but still, read with caution.

...new release date of Twilight and they said that it would most probably be shifted to 18 December 2008. Although it is still almost a month away from the North American release dates, it’s better than nothing! So, remember to mark it out in your calendars: 18 December 2008.

MTV: Team Bella, or Team Hermione?

Posted by Julia on 20 Aug 2008 || 18 Comments

MTV asks an interesting question. With all the comparisons of Stephenie Meyer's Twilight with J.K Rowling's Harry Potter, MTV wonders which heroine of each story is more... favored.

MTV believes Hermione. But who do you back up? Team Bella or Team Hermione?
Why?

“I think Bella is a bit underdeveloped as a character,” said Amy Snow, of the wizard rock band Romilda Vane and the Chocolate Cauldrons. “Hermione was first and foremost a person, and she’s realistic. It’s a pity Bella doesn’t have a secret inner strength. She’s more of just a pure maiden.”

Post your ideas over Team Bella or Team Hermione here! I want to see your opinions.

FEARnet have a new interview with Cam Gigandet, who is playing James in the Twilight movie.

What is so appealing about going after Bella? What drives him?

Gigandet: A lot of things. One would be Edward’s fascination with her, because I see Edward and I see that Edward has something that I do not have. Because Edward actually has love in his life, and even though I have a girlfriend in the movie I don’t have what he has.

Shock: It seems everyone who sits down to read the novel plows through it in a matter of days, if not hours - did you have a similar experience? And what was your initial reaction?
Rosenberg: I read it over the course of eight hours - one long day - because we were moving so quickly on the film and I got caught up in it. I loved the mythology she created. Vampires are probably an overdone genre in storytelling. We've all seen a gazillion different vampire movies. And to bring something new to it is very difficult to do.

Stephenie has updated her MySpace page, with this blog about the new Twilight movie release date:

Sunday, August 17, 2008

Movie date
Current mood: groggy

Just a few things about the new release Nov. 21st release date for Twilight:

1) I have no idea how this affects international release dates. I’m not exactly in the loop on those kinds of things. Hopefully that information will be available soon. I’ll see what I can find out…

2) I’m really, really sorry for any inconvenience the new schedule is causing people. I feel your pain. Let’s just say that my Thanksgiving plans are going through a major overhaul, too.

3) Looking on the bright side, this new release date means that Twilight will get to be on more screens–a lot more. That might mean a shorter drive for some people.

This is your first big lead in a movie. How does that feel?
It feels good. I feel like I started somewhere huge, and there's sort of nowhere to go from here... I feel like it was a big responsibility and I was really intimidated for a while, but now that it's done and I've had some breathing time to step away from the project and I'm not living it anymore, I feel good. Twilight Movie Release Date CHANGED: November 21!

Posted by Michelle on 15 Aug 2008 || 23 Comments

Big news guys! This press release was just released by Summit Entertainment today. You can view it on Summit's site here (click on "News"). Thanks to Steph and Valerie for the heads-up! The news is also posted on Stephenie Meyer's site here.

SUMMIT ENTERTAINMENT MOVES UP RELEASE DATE FOR TWILIGHT TO NOVEMBER 21, 2008

Los Angeles, CA August 15, 2008 — TWILIGHT, the first film in Summit Entertainment's thriller romance franchise, has moved up its North American release date to Friday, November 21, 2008. The film, which was previously planned to be released on December, 12, 2008, is taking advantage of an opening in the upcoming fall release calendar. The new release date for TWILIGHT allows the studio to both bring the film to the written-series' enormous fan base sooner, and to present the film in more theatres prior to the holiday movie-going season where traditionally screen time for any popular film is limited.

"When Warner Bros. decided to move HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE to the summer of 2009, we saw a unique opportunity to slot in our film which has been gaining tremendous awareness and momentum over the past several months," said Rob Friedman, Co-Chairman and CEO of Summit Entertainment. "We by no means are trying to fill the shoes of the incredible POTTER franchise for 2008, rather we are just looking to bring the fans of Stephenie Meyer's incredible book series the film as soon possible from a programming perspective."

Starring Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart in the thriller-romance based on Stephenie Meyer's publishing phenomenon, the film is directed by Catherine Hardwicke from a script by Melissa Rosenberg (STEP UP). Karen Rosenfelt (DEVIL WEARS PRADA), Greg Mooradian and Wyck Godfrey will produce along with Mark Morgan via his Maverick Films banner.

TWILIGHT tells the story of 17-year-old Bella Swan (Stewart) who moves to the small town of Forks, Washington to live with her father, and becomes drawn to Edward Cullen (Pattinson), a pale, mysterious classmate who seems determined to push her away. But neither can deny the attraction that pulls them together...even when Edward confides that he and his family are vampires. Their unorthodox romance puts her in physical danger when Edward's nemesis comes to town and sets his sights on Bella.

Thanks to Summit Entertainment for the press release.

“There’s no way that ‘Harry Potter’ was worried about ‘Twilight,’ but ‘Twilight’ has got to be feeling very good right now,” Bock said, projecting that the vampire movie could do somewhere around $70-100 million. “Maybe it won’t be as big as ‘Harry Potter,’ but if a company like Summit Entertainment pulls off $100 million, that’s quite a coup. Things are looking really bright for ‘Twilight’ right now.”

It's All About Kellan Lutz!

Posted by Shelly on 11 Aug 2008 || 3 Comments

In a 13 page article, Teen Hollywood has all the answers to your want-to-knows about Kellan Lutz (Emmet Cullen in Twilight). It talks about him being in Twilight, Prom Night, and 90210. Here's an excerpt:

TeenHollywood: You have a great ensemble cast for Twilight. What was that experience like? And, did you do any bonding ahead of time, so that you could appear as close as the Cullen family is in the books?
Kellan: Yeah, we actually really tried for that. Lucky for me, I knew a lot of the cast members. They were my friends, so it was really easy to step in there and be Emmett. As far as with Nikki Reed and myself, I hadn't really hung out with her, so it was my mission, as well as hers, to make the relationship of Rosalie and Emmett, and be able to portray a realness on screen. We're married and we pretend to be siblings, so we had to feel each other out and know the quirkiness of it all. So, we'd hang out and go to dinner all the time, and we built puzzles and just did random stuff. The cast would all hang out off the set because we were all around the same age range and it was such a great cast to work with. Everyone was really cool. We'd all go to dinner, or go to the bar next door and listen to the bands play, and just relax. We had some hard shoot days with a lot of stunts.

MTV's Twilight Tuesday is now online (watch for possible spoilers in the comments if you go read the story), and Stephenie Meyer says she may revisit the Twilight universe some day. The interview, which is part two of her interview with Kim Stolz, was done just before the Breaking Dawn release.

MTV: Is it going to be hard to walk away from "Twilight"?

Meyer: I don't feel like I have yet. I'm still working with the Edward book, which keeps me in it. I know for absolute sure that this is the last time Bella's going to tell the story, but I don't know if I'll be able to leave all the characters behind. There are so many stories there. While I plan to do some other things first, I may come back to it.

Taylor Lautner Attends Michigan Book Release Party

Posted by Shelly on 05 Aug 2008 || 0 Comments

Taylor Lautner, who portrays Jacob Black in the Twilight film, attended a book release party for Breaking Dawn in Grand Rapids, Michigan. It was quite a surprise for the fans when he showed up at his home town Barnes & Noble.

The 16-year-old and his family, who were in town to visit relatives, stayed for two hours so fans could get autographs and pictures.

"It's late. They waited," explained Taylor's father, Dan Lautner. Some people got pictures (early on), and I didn't want others not to get them.

"Another big reason is because it's Grand Rapids -- hometown."

Lautner said his son probably was extra tired after the session because friends and family took him out to play basketball and "work out" throughout the day.

"He's got to get more bulked-up for his character in the second movie," he said.

Hmm...second movie, huh? Interesting...

Our forums and front page comments have been down since July 14 to prevent Breaking Dawn spoilers from being posted. Now that the release of Breaking Dawn is only hours away, it's time to tell you guys when they will be back open! laughing

I've gotten a few emails from people who do not live in the US, asking if we could wait until the book releases in their country to open the forums/comments back up. Obviously, we can't keep the forums shut down for much longer, so here's what the plan is...

Our forums will be up tomorrow (August 2, 2008) at 4:00 pm CST, but our front page comments will not be up until August 4, when the book releases in the UK and Australia. Sadly, I can't make everybody happy, so I've done my best to compromise and figure something out. SO... you shouldn't have to worry about accidentally coming across spoilers on the main site until August 4th, but I cannot guarantee the same for the forums. Please remember to go into the forums at your own risk and know that you may come across BD spoilers in there!

Edit// I made a mistake yesterday when I said August 1, I meant August 2 (today). Also, thanks to Emma for telling me that Canada already got their book yesterday!

MTV: ‘Twilight’ Author Stephenie Meyer Responds To Enthusiasm

Posted by Julia on 01 Aug 2008 || 0 Comments

MTV's Kim Stolz talks with Stephenie Meyer about the EW magazine cover and her fans.

MTV News: How does it feel to suddenly have so many people obsessed with you and your writing?

Stephenie Meyer: It's kind of cool. No one's ever accused [the Twilighters] of not being passionate, and it makes me feel really good that they care so much about everything. Even when they weren't sure about the movie things, they cared — and that's what matters.

Screen Rant Focus: Twilight

Posted by Michelle on 01 Aug 2008 || 0 Comments

There is an article at Screen Rant about the huge success of Twilight and the upcoming movie and book. Click here to read it! Thanks to Vic Holtreman from Screen Rant for the link!

Besides the fan fervor surrounding Breaking Dawn’s release is the arguably greater fervor surrounding the cinematic release of the series’ first installment, Twilight, which hits theaters this December. Of course, anyone familiar with the books shouldn’t be surprised with the overwhelming anticipation for the movie’s release, but I think even Meyer and the young cast of the film were all blown away by the level of mania they experienced during the packed-house panel for Twilight at this year’s Comic-Con.

MTV interviews Stephenie Meyer and Christian Serratos

Posted by Julia on 01 Aug 2008 || 0 Comments

I'm not sure if this has been posted before since all the July news has been cleared for the August news. So I'm just posting this in case! Plus it's pretty interesting so it's worth seeing again.

Stephenie Meyer talked with MTV about the Twilight film and other things.

All year long, “Twilight” fans have been preparing themselves for the December movie, as well as the three sequels that will inevitably follow. But could the series actually go five movies deep?

“I really think they’d have to do five movies,” Stephenie Meyers revealed exclusively to MTV News Thursday morning, sitting down with us on the eve of her “Breaking Dawn” release and mini-tour. “Because you can’t do ‘Breaking Dawn’ in one movie, you’d have to split it up.”

MTV also talks with Christian Serratos (who plays Angela Weber in the Twilight movie).

Serratos told us that, like all the rest of the Twilighters out there, she’s dying to know what happens in Stephenie Meyer’s fourth and final book, “Breaking Dawn,” when it comes out Friday night.“I’ve put mine on hold at Barnes & Noble just like everybody else,” Serratos said. “I’m waiting for my copy. I can’t wait to read it!”

About: I was skeptical at first about the series. All my friends were reading it in 9th grade and I just wasn't into it. I had been burned pretty bad by a relationship and I just wasn't believing the whole 'love story' thing. Then, on one fateful night, I was at a book sale and was desperately seeking a new read. Twilight seemed to be glowing on the shelf and I was drawn to buy it. I didn't know why, like I said, I didn't want to even think about love. I went home and cracked open the fresh book. I instantly related to Bella. Her feelings became my feelings. Her curiosity became my curiosity. I carried the book around with me everywhere I went. I found myself even slowing down in reading it because I didn't want it to end. I closed the back cover and took a deep breath, then I realized something. I had learned to believe in love again. A simple book and taught me to believe in what I thought just couldn't exist. I also learned that every girl deserves their very own Edward Cullen. No one should settle for just some guy. He needs to be your guy. Your dream guy. Well, let's say I am not a skeptic anymore. As a freshman in college, I find myself having a lot of free time to re-read the books... again. I have my own 59 song playlist for all the books on my i-Tunes and I love that it brings me back to the moments in the books. I have met so many people just by saying that I am a "Twilighter". It amazing how passionate you can become about a novel. I am so happy I bought Twilight on a whim. It has transformed my life and taught me so much about myself. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to share my Twilight story.

About: Recently, my youngest aunt died unexpectedly in her sleep.I was left in the most depressed mood that I've ever experienced. I felt like something inside my heart had fallen out, was missing, and would never come back. It was a physical condition that literally made me uncomfortable. I thought of New Moon, and how Bella feels throughout that book. She is always holding herself together with her crossed arms. I realized that this was the closest description to what I was feeling. My chest hurt, like it was falling apart inside. Then I thought of how Bella turns into a zombie for several months and decided that I didn't want to be like that. I didn't want to lose myself in grief, and I know my aunt wouldn't have wanted me to do that either. I know that this case is different, in that I will never get that piece of my heart back for good, but I don't want to be like Zombie Bella. I want to be strong, like Bella becomes after her loss. I will never forget how Twilight helped me straighten my thoughts and fix myself in the worst times of my life. It takes an amazing book to do something like that. And an amazing writer to portray such a real and painful emotion so realistically. From all of the ways that Twilight has changed my life, this is definitely the biggest. It helpled to support me when I thought nothing could, and gave me hope when everything in my world was bleak.
