* Many people are still having a difficult time understanding the concept of Eclipse Special Edition. It is Eclipse, but includes the cover art and first chapter of Breaking Dawn. We will be posting the cover art on Monday, June 2nd, but will not be allowed to post the first chapter on our site until within a few days of the release on August 2, 2008.
* I don't have any information at all on the Breaking Dawn tour. I don't know when we can expect any information of the tour (probably not soon), but I will post it as soon as I get it.

MTV Awards Twilight Coverage Going International
Posted by Shelly on 28 May 2008 || 2 Comments
So, for all of you screaming “Egads, governor!” or “Take off, eh!” I have some very good news. When we premiere the First! Scene! Ever! From “Twilight” at the MTV Movies Awards pre-show (7:30 pm ET) this Sunday, millions of people all over the world will be able to share in our first taste of blood, romance and Robert Pattinson.
The 2008 pre-show will air live not only on good, old-fashioned, American-as-apple-pie MTV, but also on the following international channels: MTV Australia, MTV New Zealand, throughout Europe on MTV Adria, MTV Arabia, MTV Denmark, MTV Estonia, MTV European, MTV Finland, MTV Germany, MTV Hungary, MTV Latvia, MTV Lithuania, MTV Poland, MTV Portugal, MTV Russia, MTV Spain, and MTV Sweden.
The show will also run on MTV Brazil and MTV Canada. If your MTV affiliate isn’t listed, keep in mind that this is only a partial list, and many channels will re-run the program after its initial airing. As the man on the TV says: Check your local listings.
So, be sure to set your Tivo, DVR or VHS (Seriously? Dude, time to upgrade!) so you can watch and re-watch Stephenie Meyer’s intro, the exclusive scene, and Robert, Kristen and Cam on the red carpet. Whether you’re in the U.S. or anywhere else in this big blue world, simply set your clock to 7:30 pm ET time on Sunday night, and you’re good to go.

Another Guy's Perspective on Twilight
Posted by Shelly on 27 May 2008 || 3 Comments
I made my female roommate go with me to the book store and purchase the novel while I stood at a safe distance to avoid the possibility that it might be intended for me...I returned home to endure the endless chastising of my other roommate (male) who attempted to read the book after me before hurling it across the room.
But I can say that my excuses of “it’s only research” is flimsy at best considering I not only read the first novel, but have already gone through the other two published books in the span of about two weeks. I’m ashamed at my masculinity, or lack thereof…Stephenie Meyer knows how to tell a decent story, though.
In conclusion, the book(s) weren’t half bad and might translate to an enjoyable experience for more than just the female audience in December. But I will admit that I’m drinking a beer while writing this in order to preserve whatever masculinity I might have left.
Do I recommend other men go out and pick this up? Eh, not really. But don’t refuse outright to see the movie when a date tries to drag you to the theater at the end of the year. My advice? Try bargaining knowing now you might not completely hate it.

Stephenie in NYT Sunday Book Review

On the fiction list, Stephenie Meyer’s “Host” displaces James Patterson’s “Sundays at Tiffany’s.” Meyer was until recently an anonymous Mormon housewife; she wrote her first book only a few years ago. She’s the author of the Twilight series of teenage vampire novels, books that have gone viral; they’ve quickly sold some 5.3 million copies in the United States.

Will there be a sequel to The Host?
This is one of those "probably" questions. It's funny, because I have been working so much on my other stories, and I have been editing forever and just thinking in the Forks world. That's where I have been mentally. And so in this last couple weeks of answering Host questions and going through the book again and again, I am starting to get excited again about the sequels, which is kind of cool. I have outlines and the prologue written for the second one, and the epilogue written to the third. So I have got the frame. And I imagine I will get to that. It might take me a while, so I don't want to make any guarantees. As soon as I get done with the summer, what I want to do is just take a year and write again. No publicity, none of that for a whole year. Which sounds like an incredibly luxury in its self, so we will see which books come out of that time.

Stephenie: There's a lot of Speculation
Posted by Shelly on 22 May 2008 || 3 Comments
"There is a lot of speculation on the internet about possible covers, content and text of Breaking Dawn. I hope everybody knows that you shouldn't believe everything you see on the internet. The only way you will know what is real is when you have the book in your hands. Until then, people should really take everything they see with a grain of salt."
Seth also answered one of the questions that many fans are asking:
Although Eclipse Special Edition that comes out May 31, 2008 will include the cover art and the first chapter of Breaking Dawn, we will not be able to post that first chapter at that time. For Eclipse, we were given permission to post the first chapter about two weeks before it came out. For Breaking Dawn, if we get permission at all, it will probably be just a couple of days before it comes out. I hope that clears up some confusion.

Breaking Dawn: UK Release Date News

Some people, as well as book stores, have been told that it is being published on Saturday August 2nd. However, it is actually Monday August 4th.
I received an e-mail from Stephenie's UK publishers, confirming the release date, which I have been given permission to re-post:
The publication date for BREAKING DAWN in the UK is still August 4th – there was some talk of matching the US but there were so many complications with that we’ve decided to stay on the 4th.
This also means that midnight release parties may now be a possibility, although nothing has been arranged yet.

Twilight Set to Take on the World?
Posted by Shelly on 19 May 2008 || 3 Comments
In the male-dominated world of geekdom, women are often left behind when the Next Big Thing comes around...
But in the case of Twilight, the bestselling novel that's about to become a film, it's the women who are going crazy while the men are left scratching their heads...
It's funny to hear some male geeks talk dismissively of the Twilight movie. They wonder if the film will really do any business. They wonder if the fan base is really THAT big...
But let me tell you: Yes, the fan base is huge...
And look at the components: a weepy romance, a strong heroine that girls like to see as representing themselves (smart, pretty, misunderstood), and a male lead who's a "bad boy" and cute in a non-threatening, not-overly-masculine kind of way. What film does that sound like? Yep, Titanic. And if Titanic taught us anything, it's that women -- especially teenage girls -- will pay to see a movie over and over and over and over and over and over again if it flutters their hearts.

How Larry and Other Guys Came to Love Twilight
Posted by Shelly on 15 May 2008 || 1 Comments
Then in January I interviewed Miss Kristen Stewart at Sundance as part of my job, and much like any day at the “office,” we discussed upcoming projects she was excited about. MTV News ran a brief item on her comments, and it broke the Movies Blog record for reader comments!
That night, I found myself in a Barnes & Noble, determined to track down this girly novel that Kristen had spoken so highly of, and a few thousand of her soon-to-be-closest friends seemed to equally adore. A half-hour went by as I stumbled from the “Fiction” section to “Fantasy,” from “Romance” to “Sci-Fi,” looking under the T’s for “Twilight” and the M’s for Stephenie Meyer. Being a guy, I’d be damned if I was going to ask for help from some dude in a green apron...I suddenly came around the corner to a wall of black covers with hands holding an apple, staring back at me. It was surrounded by books aimed towards tween girls. Above the shelving read the words “Young Adult.”
One side of my brain yelled “That’s the book!” while the other screamed “You’re a 33-year-old man in the YA section! You look like Michael Jackson! Grab the book and get outta there!”

Update: This is apparently an ongoing effort to let guys know that they're not alone in loving Twilight.

Catherine Hardwicke Keeping it Real
Posted by Shelly on 14 May 2008 || 2 Comments
For one thing, the lead Bella wasn't awkward or lonely but a popular track star. For another, the FBI showed up which reduced the Twilight climax to a typical action flick.
No worries. Hardwicke, who made a name for herself helming teen movies Thirteen and Lords Of Dogtown, had the script re-worked to resemble the book shortly after taking over.
In other words, Bella (Kristen Stewart) returns to being a lousy athlete and a loner hopelessly devoted to Edward (Robert Pattinson), a vampire trying to kick his deadly habit. The director deleted the FBI incursion, too.
Read how Catherine kept the movie real, how she may throw in a few surprises, and how the fans kept her inspired here.

In Conclusion: Fans should be very pleased with the movie. It definitely stays very close to the original work, paying homage to the novel instead of trying to reinvent it.

Texas, Arizona, Utah, and a playlist
Current mood: chill
It took me a few days to catch up on lost sleep, which is why I didn't update right after my Texas signings (also, I had a book report to "help" my 5th grader with. "We" better get an A because it ROCKS). So, to recap, Texas was awesome. I got to meet a lot of cool people and there were even a few old friends in the line, which was a nice surprise. Frisco got a little hectic, due to the fact that I had a plane to catch, but everyone was very nice about it, and I'm sure you'll all be relieved to know that I did catch my plane and made it home for Mother's Day.
Tonight, I have my hometown event with Changing Hands. I'm hoping to see a lot of familiar faces. (You know who you are.)
Now that The Host has been out for a week, I'm also looking forward to some new, challenging Q&A questions. I'm pretty sure that Utah won't disappoint me there.
Finally--a bit tardy, sorry--I did get my The Host playlist up on my website. I noticed that there is a lot of Linkin Park and Nine Inch Nails. It's funny how some bands (and not always the ones you expect) express your theme so clearly in so many different ways. (Nine Inch Nails--experience with aliens? There's just not enough evidence to make a determination at this point.)

Fan Report from Houston, Texas

Wow. So meeting Stephenie Meyer was, for lack of a better word, amazing. getting the chance to talk to her and listen to her talk was worth skipping school to be at Barns-n-Nobles at 4:30 in the morning to get tickets. The event took place at Klein Forest High School (which isn't known for being a very good school, but it was closest to Barnes and Noble) at 7p.m. but they opened the doors at 6. Me and my friends (we were a group of 4) arrived at the high school around 4, and there were about 40 people in line ahead of us. Wearing our black homemade “Team Edward” shirts wasn't the best idea considering it was 90 degrees out side. Along with our bags of book, we brought a gift basket we made for Stephenie. We decorated a huge basket full of an assortment of Texas souvenirs, and random objects that reminded us of Twilight. It was a work of art. :] But we put chocolate in it, which melted, so I guess it's the thought that counts. When they let us inside it was a mad dash for seats. Me and my friends got lucky and were in the third row. There was an aisle right down the middle directly in front of where Stephenie would stand. I was extremely lucky to be in the last chair before the aisle so I had a clear view of Stephenie.

"In the book, for example, where Bella reveals she knows he's a vampire, it was in a long conversation, just driving in a car. We're doing that scene by the Salmon River, which is this beautiful, crazy, vivid, wild stream, and it's got this ancient tree just wrapped around this huge rock that they're standing against in the most beautiful forest you've ever seen."
Kenji is FOTM for May 2008
Posted by Michelle on 09 May 2008 || 0 Comments
Also, we had a guy enter for FOTM this month and what he wrote was pretty amazing as well. I thought I'd share it with you guys. So Will, even though you're not fan of the month, I applaud you for entering!
Will says: "Twilight is my Edward, me being Bella. My bff told me about the captivating story. His sister read it and told him to read it, but he was skeptical, thinking he wouldn't like it, and thinking it was a girl book. Man was he wrong. He recommended it to me, and I could not put Twilight down! Edward's our favorite character. We both got sad and depressed when Edward left in New Moon. He and I both think Edward is awesome. We're guys, so we always say if Edward's personality went into Bella's body, we would fight over who would get to date Belward. We're going in line till midnight to get Breaking Dawn when it comes out, and going to see the movie in December. To sum it up, Twilight has changed our lives more than anything else. It's amazing how one small story has the power to make people cry, make them rejoice, make them sacred and make them truly question everything they believe in."

MTV Posts Official Twilight Synopsis
Posted by Michelle on 09 May 2008 || 0 Comments
TWILIGHT is an action-packed, modern-day love story between a vampire and a human. Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) has always been a little bit different, never caring about fitting in with the trendy girls at her Phoenix high school. When her mother remarries and sends Bella to live with her father in the rainy little town of Forks, Washington, she doesn’t expect much of anything to change. Then she meets the mysterious and dazzlingly beautiful Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson), a boy unlike any she’s ever met. Intelligent and witty, he sees straight into her soul. Soon, Bella and Edward are swept up in a passionate and decidedly unorthodox romance.
Twilight Nexus Chat With Michael Welch

This is the questions I’ve been dying to ask anyone from the cast - “Were you aware of the hype surrounding Twilight when you were first getting involved?” Michael said, “No. No idea.” and went on to say that if the cast had been aware of the huge fan base there would have been a lot more pressure during auditions. He said they first began to get a clue when they saw the 50,000 some posts on IMDB’s Twilight page before production even began. We would be on set one day, he said, and the next day there would be videos from the previous day on YouTube, it was more weird than anything else.

I'm off to Texas (with no intentions of messing with it, let me assure you) in a few minutes. Before I leave Kansas City, I wanted to say thanks to all the amazing fans who showed up last night. Thanks for being so cool and so patient, and for laughing at my jokes. I wish I could spend some more time in KC--it's gorgeous here! Tulips grow right up out of the ground and everything.
A note: I believe Kansas City now holds the record for the most male readers in attendance (somewhere around 35). Awesome.
Also: it took about four hours to get through the signing line last night. Just something to keep in mind if you're number 1000 at an event.

On whether we’ll see a sequel to The Host:
“After a certain Book 4 comes out (loud cheers from the fangirls … Breaking Dawn, the finale to the Twilight series, is due in stores Aug. 2), when I’m done I just want to write for a while. It could be about ghosts, mermaids, whatever comes to me.”
She’s sort of avoiding writing a Host sequel, actually.
“This is a dangerous world. People will have to die. And there are people I don’t want to kill.”
On the “Twilight” movie, coming out Dec. 12 (she’s made suggestions but really has no creative control):
“It’s been pure fun for me. And if it’s bad, it’s not my fault. I know the odds: How many movies from a book have been good? Most of the time it’s horrible.
“But I was in L.A. — was it last week? I’m losing track of time. I got to see footage. It looks really good, guys. I’m excited.” (More cheers and applause.)

She was just named to "TIME" magazine`s top 100 most influential people of 2008 list, where they call her the new J.K. Rowling. Her first three novels have spent a combined 143 weeks on "The New York Times" bestseller list. She`s sold over five million copies.
Her first book, "Twilight," which she wrote in three months after a dream, is currently being made into a movie, and her latest book, "The Host," the first targeted towards adults, was just released earlier this week.

As for why the books enthrall readers: There's always the old-fashioned sex appeal of vampires - the taking of blood, neck biting, the intimacy of the exchange. Yet Meyer downplays it a bit: "Since I haven't read a lot of vampire books, I really haven't absorbed that assumption. The act of sucking blood is not this sensual, sexual, romantic thing; it's a very violent, gruesome act."

We will start writing Book 2 by the summer… so yeah. The goal is, particularly with Kristen and stuff, and then these books happen one after the other, and so hopefully [we] can figure it out from a scheduling standpoint, would be to do Book 2 and 3 together, because it just makes sense from production and the age of the actors and stuff to do it. So it was lovely to meet Rob Pattinson. He’s an easy-going, amusing guy. He’s certainly focused on his work, but doesn’t seem to be ruled by it. He was mulling over his future activities, jobs, possibilities, and all of them sounded lovely but he didn’t feel the need to pin down what would be perfect for him at this minute or what would be the best for his career. He’s just a guy in his early 20’s, and like a lot of us, he just seems to be going with the flow and seeing how things figure themselves out and trying to have as much fun as he can in the process.

Stephenie Meyer, The Host Interview
Posted by Michelle on 04 May 2008 || 0 Comments
What inspired the idea for The Host?
The kernel of thought that became The Host was inspired by absolute boredom. I was driving from Phoenix to Salt Lake City through some of the most dreary and repetitive desert in the world. It's a drive I've made many times, and one of the ways I keep from going insane is by telling myself stories. I have no idea what sparked the strange foundation of a body-snatching alien in love with the host body's boyfriend over the host-body's protest. I was halfway into the story before I realized it. Once I got started, though, the story immediately demanded my attention. I could tell there was something compelling in the idea of such a complicated triangle. I started writing the outline in a notebook, and then fleshed it out as soon as I got to a computer. The Host was supposed to be no more than a side project — something to keep me busy between editing stints on Eclipse — but it turned into something I couldn't step away from until it was done.

The Host is Meyer's first detour from the love-struck, best-selling teen-vampire novels that have launched a million daydreams and doodles. A race of alien ''souls'' has nested in the brains of most humans and erased their consciousness. But Melanie will not go gently. She convinces Wanderer to trek into the desert, where her true love, Jared, and her brother, Jamie, live with other survivors in underground caverns. When Wanderer tracks them down, she falls for Jared too — which makes Melanie one jealous psyche.

Twilight Set report from the Lexicon
Posted by Michelle on 01 May 2008 || 0 Comments
The first thing you notice about the landscape of Portland is that it is vivid green. Everyone tends to say that but it is true. The natural beauty of the area is so hard to explain — saying that everything is green is an understatement. The snow topped mountains create a stunning contrast to the lush surrounding forest. This feature magnifies itself ten fold once you venture out of the city and into the scenic parks that surround it. The roads that lead into the park are small and winding, so pack your Dramamine if you are prone to motion sickness. All the twisting and turning is well worth it when you finally crest the hill and land at Vista House which over looks the Columbia Gorge. The view brings new meaning to the phrase breathtaking.
